I was thrilled to join Chrisell and Samantha at the grand opening of Cape Town’s newest gem: The Trade Boutique Hotel. Set in the heart of the city, this hotel offers a unique twist on luxury, blending modern comfort with the quirky, vintage charm inspired by Wes Anderson’s iconic The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Arriving on a beautiful summer’s day, we couldn’t have asked for better weather to kick off the day’s events. The clear blue skies and warm morning sun felt like an open invitation to explore every corner of this whimsical haven. Our first stop was the breathtaking rooftop lounge, where Kim and Gill from Sun & Safari welcomed us warmly. Here, we enjoyed complimentary coffees while taking in the panoramic views of Cape Town – from the bustling city below to the serene ocean in the distance. It was the perfect start to our visit, and the attention to detail in both the service and the ambiance hinted at the kind of experience The Trade aims to deliver.
After soaking in the morning’s beauty from the rooftop, we had the pleasure of touring two of the hotel’s fifty rooms. Each space was thoughtfully designed, with rich colors, bold patterns, and vintage decor that transported us right into Anderson’s cinematic world. Every piece seemed to tell its own story, creating a sense of nostalgia and adventure in equal measure. The hotel’s commitment to individuality in each room is clear, making every stay feel as unique as the decor itself.
Finally, we wrapped up our visit at The Wes, a charming French bistro on the ground floor that invites guests to step into a cozy slice of Parisian life. The bistro’s warm, welcoming atmosphere was a delightful end to our tour. We lingered over the incredible menu, imagining a perfect evening out with friends, framed by the vintage-style decor and soft lighting.
A huge thank you to Kim and Gill from Sun & Safari for the warm hospitality and insightful tour. If you’re in Cape Town and looking for a hotel experience that feels like a step into a cinematic world, The Trade Boutique Hotel is the place to be.
