Day 1: Home  Johannesburg  Windhoek

Flight to Windhoek.

Day 2: Windhoek > Otjiwarango

On arriving at Windhoek, you will be met by our local representative which will hand over your travel documents and assist you with your car at the rental office. You will drive to Okahandja and visit a wood carving work shop. You will stop at Otjiwarango for your first night.

Day 3: Otjiwarango > Etosha National Park

+/- 170km / 2h30
Today, take the road to Etosha National Park! After lunch and your checking in, you will go and discover Etosha National Park, the “great white place”. It is a fantastic opportunity to observe the game living in the savanna (springboks, zebras, gemsboks, gnus, giraffes, elephants etc.).

Day 4: Etosha National Park

Spend your day at Etosha National Park. Surrounding the vast Etosha Pan with its shimmering mirages (salt pan without any vegetation), the famous national park is one of the largest conservation areas in the world. After the summer rains, potholes and flooded vleis attract thousands of birds.
At sunset, you will have the opportunity to get very close to elephants, rhinos and oryx that come to drink at water points.

Day 5: Etosha National Park > Damaraland

You will reach Damaraland, located between Etosha National Park and Brandberg mountains. This region is sparsely populated, home to some geological curiosities, relics of the past that give the country its full timelessness: the Vingerklip – odd shaped rock like a finger; Petrified Forest – the fossilized trunks can reach 30m high and 6m in circumference, half buried in sandstone dating back over 200 million years; the Organ Pipes – a series of dolerite pillars which have been exposed by erosion.

Day 6: Damaraland > Walvis Bay

You will drive to Twyfelfontein which offers one of the finest concentrations of rock art in Africa. You will then continue through the fascinating area recently renamed “Kunene” and cross the desert and mountainous region before arriving at Cape Cross, where the first European explorers landed region. Cape Cross is also a sanctuary for about 80 à 110 000 seals, quite a show!
Arrive in Swakopmund in the afternoon and visit the oldest resort on the coast. Founded in 1892, it is the largest Namibian resort with its mild weather, low rainfall, charm and relaxing atmosphere climate.
You will then take the road to Walvis Bay for two nights.

Day 7: Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay, built on a lagoon, is surrounded on one side by the Atlantic Ocean and the other side, inward, by the dunes of the Namib. Thanks to its huge salt fields, Walvis Bay is the largest producer of salt in Africa. The lagoon, one of the most important wetlands in Africa, welcomes up to 80 000 birds in summer. Flamingos, pelicans, cormorants and fishing birds color the smooth surface of the lagoon.
You will go on a boat cruise to observe seals and dolphins as well as to discover Bird Island, home of hundreds of Cape cormorants du Cap, and Pelican Point with its seals and pink flamingos. During the excursion, you will be served oysters and sparkling wine.

Day 8: Walvis Bay > Kuiseb Canyon > Solitaire

+/- 240km / 3h30
You will discover the famous Welvitchia Mirabilis, a botanical curiosity located exclusively in the foggy area of the Namib Desert. Some specimens are over 1,500 years old!
You will then travel through the stark Naukluft Mountains and the Kuiseb Canyon.
Suggested activity: Star Safari (Walk in the Namib Desert at sunset/ sunrise)
Suggested activity: Agro-tourism (Visit and/or sleep in one of the oldest farms in Namibia)
Accommodation: Solitaire Guest Farm or similar.

Day 9: Solitaire > Sossusvlei > Maltahole

+/- 350 km / 5h20
You will not regret waking up early today: you will have breakfast while catching sunrise over the Sossusvlei sand dunes. Some of the shifting dunes are as high as 325 meters and are coloured in shades of pale orange to bright red … Sossusvlei is a huge clay pan, enclosed by gigantic mountains of sand punctuated by skeletons of ancient camel-thorn trees.
You will then board on a 4 x 4 vehicle to reach one of the strangest sites of Sossusvlei: Dead Pan. You will climb to the top of one of the dunes and enjoy the magnificent views.
You will continue your trip via the Sesriem Canyon: this is a 30 m deep canyon carved through layers of conglomerate by the Tsauchab River.

Day 10: Maltahole > Kalahari

You will take the road to Mariental on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Ancestral land of the Bushmen , the 900,000sq km Kalahari desert is a large semi-arid sandy savannah , covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and as well as South Africa. This desert is characterized by its alternation of dry and longitudinal sections of red dunes and semi-arid valleys which gives to its landscapes a fantastic contrast of colors.

Day 11: Kalahari > Windhoek  Maun  Okavango Delta

You will drive to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Nama, Herero, German, Afrikaans, and British cultures have influenced the growth and development of the city and as a result the German colonial styled houses stand alongside with modern buildings.
You will then go to the airport to return your car and check in for your return flight

End of your trip in Namibia !

Extension Fish River Canyon

In the far south of Namibia, the Fish River Canyon (the second largest canyon in the world) is a real challenge to the physical and mental endurance hikers. But the reward – the discovery of one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Africa – is well worth it.

Day 09: Solitaire > Helmeringshausen

You will drive to Helmeringshausen and check in for one night at a traditional farm where you will be taken on a tour.
Accommodation: Desert Horse Inn or similar.

Day 10: Helmeringshausen > Fish River Canyon

You will drive towards Fish River Canyon and enjoy the facilities your lodge offers after such a long road.
Accommodation: Canon Roadhouse or similar.

Day 11: Fish River Canyon

Discover Fish River Canyon and go for a day walking in this spectacular landscape! At the end of your efforts, you enjoy Ais Ais Hot Springs!

Day 12: Fish River Canyon > Mariental > Kalahari

You will take the road to Keetmanshoop and visit Kokerboom Forest before reaching Kalahari area.
